PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Dr. Mabel Carabali (she/her) is a distinguished epidemiologist and medical professional. She obtained her medical degree from Colombia's Unversidad Libre and holds a PhD in epidemiology from McGill University. With over 14 years of experience in international research, her expertise lies in infectious diseases and social epidemiology. Dr. Carabali's current work focuses on assessing underreporting and misclassification in expanding statistical methods for intersectionality studies, and investigating health disparities.

Khardjatou Marianne Djigo (she/her) obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences (Cell Biology and Anatomy) with a double minor concentration in Sociology and Social Studies of Medicine from McGill University. Her undergraduate research includes studying sociodemographic factors for the distribution of dengue virus (DENV) in Chocó, Colombia, and in the laboratory, elucidating the role of VAR2CSA containing extracellular vesicles in the pathogenesis of placental malaria.
Khadi is interested in the biology of various infectious diseases, and the factors that determine their distribution and disparate outcomes, especially in marginalized populations. She contributes to the Infectious Diseases, and the Maternal and Infant Health working groups within the PanDIASPORA Project.

Yasmine Elmi (she/her) is currently graduating with a Masters in Family Medicine and Global Health at McGill University. Her masters thesis, supported by funding from CIHR and the McCall MacBain Foundation, focuses on participatory methods in adolescents' sexual and reproductive health.
Yasmine collaborates with the Pan-American Data Initiative for the Analysis of Population Racial and Ethnic Health Inequities, where she explores critical issues in maternal and child health in Latin America. She is an incoming candidate of McGill’s MD PhD program where she will continue to explore racial disparities in health outcomes.

Thowiba Mansour is an early career researcher with a focused interest in infectious disease prevention and control. She holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery, a master’s degree in public health in Disasters, and a master’s degree in Epidemiology. Mansour has experience as a medical professional in humanitarian settings and three years of experience in health research, specifically in vaccination security, at the University Laval Research Centre (CRCHU). During her career, she received multiple scholarships, including the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Master's Scholarship from the European Commission. Mansour has also contributed to the scientific community through several authored publications.
